Dear Friends, This week's quote is from spiritual awareness class CC 87, which was published in Volume 4 of The Living Light Dialogue.
"When man—and he does it so often—expresses what is known as the Law of Justification, what is man really and truly doing? When someone asks a soul to do something and on that level of consciousness they are receptive to the desire and they commit themselves to do it. Because of a great lack of self-control, the soul fluctuates like a yo-yo into many different levels of consciousness. When it comes time to fulfill the commitment to their own soul, they're on a different level of consciousness and doing that particular job on that level of consciousness is very low on their priority list. Consequently, they don't do it. However, the day is guaranteed to face the person to whom they think they made the commitment to, little knowing they made it to their own soul. And so they go through what is known as the Law of Justification and they say, "This is the reason that I didn't do it. This is the reason that I couldn't do it." Now, why do they do that? Why do all of God's children go through that justification level? Because they cannot face the guilt that they feel in their own emotional being. That's why they do what they do. They cannot and will not face themselves. Now, we understand, in this philosophy anyway, that guilt is nothing more and nothing less than rejected desire. And that's all that guilt is. Because, you see, you accept and you desire to do something, you don't have control of your mind, let alone your body, and you're on another level and you reject that desire from the other level and you feel guilty about it. Now, we have taught in these classes that guilt, a guilt complex, is a cancer of your eternal soul. Root it out, my friends, before it sends you deeper into the dungeons of darkness. Forgiveness, one must learn, is a forgiveness of oneself: to forgive the functions for their transgressions, not to say that those functions are somebody else's, because you are a part of the human race and you have all the functions the human race has. And whatever thought is possible to one man is possible to all men. Learn to forgive yourself. Pray for greater strength, greater understanding, for when you gain understanding, you will free your soul. So pray for greater acceptance, pray for greater consideration, for those are the things that grant you understanding. If you feel guilt and you feel shame in the depths of your consciousness, remember one thing when you feel that way— and everybody does—at the time you feel that way, you're not with God, but you are with your own self-will and your own thoughts and your own emotions. The God of this philosophy is a God of freedom, a God of goodness. The God of the Living Light philosophy sees no difference between ant and angel, for it sees principle, the essence of truth, not personality, the form of bondage. That lesson, my good students, someday in this great eternity must enter your consciousness. For without its acceptance and application, no soul can ever be freed." The idea of levels of consciousness is a very interesting teaching because it explains so much of our behavior. One moment we want to go to the mountains, and in the next, we want to go to the sea. From moment to moment, we, our souls, from our own lack of awareness and self-control, express on many different levels, and they often have very different priorities. So when we are asked to do something and we agree, we may, on that level, truly want to do it. But when the time arrives to meet that commitment, we are often on a different level and we simply don't feel like doing it. And we disregard that commitment. This pattern of behavior may, on some levels, feel appropriate at the time, but it does not bring goodness into our lives. It brings the opposite. And because each commitment that we make is in truth a commitment to our souls, when we turn our backs to our commitments, we weaken the fiber of our own character. And that is one of the reasons that this philosophy teaches to meet or change your commitments in life, but do not ignore them. It is often difficult to stop this pattern of behavior (or any established habit) until we become consciously aware of it and gain some understanding of what is going on in our own consciousness.
