Serenity's Weekly Spiritual Quote: Insight into discouragement

 

 

Dear Friends,

 

This week's quote is from ACP 22, which will be published in Volume 15 of The Living Light Dialogue. This quote starts with a question from a student. As we endeavor to make changes in our lives, thoughts of discouragement often arise. This quote offers insight into the nature of those types of thoughts.

 


“'When we are making continuity of effort in overcoming a belief or a pattern and the pattern denies that any progress is being made and that our efforts are in vain, what should we say to the pattern or should we ignore it?'


Well, the thing is, in reference to one’s efforts in awakening that they are not the pattern or the forms they have created and the form states in their mind that they are making no progress, that is the first indicator that they are about to achieve a victory in taking control over their life. And so it is most understandable that any pattern or any form that one has, in error of ignorance, permitted themselves to once again believe that they are, that as you are gaining control over the forms you have created, that they would tell you that you are making no progress at all for they appeal to your uneducated ego that another form rises up saying, “It’s a waste of time. I’ve wasted all these years and all this effort. What’s the use?” And you find yourself going right back to serve them. So take it as it truly is: an indicator that you are about to succeed. And the forms you have been serving know that you are about to succeed, and therefore, they’re only alternative, in order to stay in control, is to discourage you so you will stop making the effort.”

 

 

When thoughts of discouragement arise, that is the time to be encouraged and to make even greater effort. We are not our thoughts. We are that which moves our thoughts.
