Insight into concern

View this email in your browser Dear Friends, This week's quote is from spiritual awareness class CC 64, which was published in Volume 3 of The Living Light Dialogue. "One of the greatest obstructions to this flow of rhythm and balance is the mental concern over any situation that we may encounter in life. Now, it is a very normal thing to be concerned about the outcome of anything that we are interested in. This is a very normal process of the mind. When I say "normal," I mean it is very average. When we permit the mind to be concerned, that is when we become the obstruction to anything that we are seeking in life. Now, a person may say, "Well, I'd best be concerned or the job won't get done." It doesn't mean that we should sit back and just say, "Well, there's a Divine Intelligence. It will take care of it." No, that's not why we're individualized souls. But there is a fine point. There is a point where the mind does its job. There is a point at which the mind does not, and cannot, go beyond. The mind expresses in a mental level. And it can do many things and does do many things on a mental level. But there is a level of consciousness that is greater, that is far superior than what we call the mind. And when we reach a situation life, whatever it may be—our business, our prosperity, or our health—when we have done all that we feel that we can do to have the situation turn out the way that we desire it to do, there comes a point in time where we must let go. Let go of all concern, because we have done everything that we can do mentally. When we reach that point, there is an inner peace that descends over our vibration. And when that happens, it is amazing: because that which we have tried with such great effort starts to dawn in our consciousness, and it has happened.  What it simply means, my friends, is this—consciously or unconsciously, it does not matter how—it means that we have let go. We have let go of the mental activity concerning the situation and now we will become the living demonstration of what God can do. And that's what happens, my friends. That's what happens when the mind says, "I've had it. I have tried everything," and it lets go."   It is very important that we do our part and it is also important that we let it go, which I understand to mean to release it to the Divine. It is often not easy to let anything go. It takes quite a number of faculties, including acceptance and wisdom to know when our part is accomplished. But it is possible. Accept what you desire

View this email in your browser Dear Friends, This week's quote is from spiritual awareness class CS 3, which will be published in Volume 18 of The Living Light Dialogue. "You know, there's nothing that keeps a man where he is, except satisfaction. When you're satisfied, you certainly don't make any effort to do anything different. So, you see, the teaching is "Irritation wakes the soul and satisfaction lets it sleep." So let us not be so satisfied and so pompous in what we have or have not. Let us be a little irritated because then we'll be about the business of the Divine. Then we will not look out into the world and say, "Oh, there's a sugar shortage. There may be a depression and there's a shortage of this and there's a shortage of that." Well, what was it? Last year there was a toilet paper shortage. There's always some kind of shortage in the consciousness of the human mind. But is there a shortage? Where does it exist? I assure you, my good friends, it is not the time of year for our annual forecast, but I can assure you this: there is no sugar shortage. There is in truth no paper shortage. And you will never be short of anything you desire if you will accept that you have it. All you have to do is to learn to control your mind. Accept that you have whatever you desire. But do not desire what another has, for that is a transgression of the divine law. Whatever another has, you may desire from the universe, which is limitless, but do not desire to remove it from another human soul, for if you do that, you will set a law into motion guaranteeing all the experiences necessary to understand why that person has it and you have it not. So let your desires be directed to the Divine. The Divine is the only one capable—believe me!—of fulfilling them. You see, through an error of ignorance, of course, our mind says, "I have this desire and it's over there. And I must move over there and I must go through a certain path in order to fulfill it." As long as the mind has accepted that as the way, then it has set that law into motion. But isn't it better to sit at peace to see in full visualization all that you have desired and to say, "Thank you, God," [and] to accept it in your consciousness? Remember that gratitude is the first soul faculty: duty, gratitude, and tolerance. And it is through the soul faculty of gratitude that man's supply and abundance constantly flows. And so, accept what it is you desire, and don't tell the Divine Intelligence that you have to do a certain thing in order to have it. Because when you do that, that's the law that you set into motion. You descend from a spiritual realm where all things are in the eternal now, and you descend into a mental realm where you must go through the necessary mental gymnastics of what your tapes are dictating in order to experience it. Now which is the best way? Which is the simplest way? Which is the easiest way? But that takes a slight dethronement, a slight dethronement of what they call the unbelievable, tenacious human ego. That's what that takes to accept an intelligence in the universe that is greater than our brain." A saying in these teachings tells of a person who sees a beautiful coat in the window of a store and thinks, "That's such a beautiful coat! And that would look great on me!" And after a moment, another thought arises, "Oh God, I could never afford such a beautiful coat." To which God replies, "If you're so smart, have it your way."  Before anything can manifest in our lives, we must first accept it in consciousness. Insight into fear

View this email in your browser Dear Friends, This week's quote is from spiritual awareness class CL 78, which is entitled, "Our Invisible Friends," and which was published in Volume 9 of The Living Light Dialogue. "Fear, which is the mind's control over the eternal soul, is something that each of us experience each and every day. We experience it because we haven't yet learned, perhaps, how to free our self from this temporal, mental body. This mind that we have is in a constant process of evolving and changing. Because it is in a constant process of evolving and changing and expanding, we experience in our life each day what we call fear. We fear for our jobs. We fear for our homes. We fear for our material supply. We fear for our health. We fear for so many things each and every day. I am aware that some of us, perhaps, are not willing to admit to ourselves that we are filled with so much fear. But all we have to do is take an inventory of our daily experiences and then we will become quickly aware of how much fear we are experiencing. The reason that we look in this physical world and see so very much negativity is because it is the expression of fear. As long as we permit our minds to believe that we and we alone are life itself, that there is no intelligence outside of us, personally, that is sustaining and supporting us, then we can be rest assured we shall pay the price of Lucifer. It's called the price of pride. For if you will recall, Lucifer rose in his great pride to be equal with the intelligent Energy that was sustaining him, called God. These invisible friends that are around and about us each and every moment, ever in keeping with the Law of Attraction, we shall meet someday. If we do not meet them while yet in the physical flesh, we are guaranteed to meet them when we leave this physical world. For the physical body, garnered up from the physical substance of earth, is destined by the Law of Return to go back to this physical earth. And our mental body, which we have identified with, is destined to return to the substance from whence it was garnered. My friends, there is no lasting security in identifying with the things that come and are guaranteed to go. The only thing that we will ever or have ever had or will ever have is the possibility of awakening to our great, eternal life, to a stream of consciousness that is far beyond the limited forms created by our human mind. For in truth, we are this essence of life. We are a stream of consciousness that ever moves through untold multitudes of so-called experience. But we must remember, we are not the experience. We are not the thought. We are the intelligent energy that has created the thought, but we are not the thought itself. It is when we believe we are the thought that our problems start to rise. It is when we believe we are the fear and the experience—that is our struggle. For it, in truth, is revealing to us that we have identified with the duality of creation and through that identity, we have attached our self to that vibratory wave. All of life is vibration. And we are the vibration that we alone, through identity, have chosen. But we can choose a new vibration. To us, it's called an attitude. We can choose that new vibration and we can, then, free our self from that which we have chosen to free our self from."   Whenever we are prompted from within a change may be beneficial in our lives, at the very thought of a change fear rises in our minds.  The prompting for the change may be the guidance from our soul, although there could be a variety of causes. But the fear that arises in response is from our minds, for our established thoughts and judgments regard any change as a threat, and they use fear as a defense in order to obstruct the change that we are considering. That is my understanding of one of the ways in which fear is the mind's control over our eternal soul. And when we become aware of the feeling of fear in our minds, that is the time to redirect our attention. If it often not easy to do so, but it is possible for all of us. Insight into Motive

View this email in your browser Dear Friends, This week's quote is from spiritual awareness class CC 64 which was published in Volume 3 of The Living Light Dialogue. "Now, let us take a few moments on what we call motive. When we become aware of the feelings and the thought patterns that exist beneath our so-called conscious level, we then become aware of our motives. Now, it is stated in this philosophy that if the motive is pure, the method is legal, dependent, of course, upon the purity of our own motive. It is a teaching to be applied, as all of these teachings are, to our own levels of consciousness and to ourselves. Each day we experience what is known as the level of consciousness called justification. We must express through that level in order to defend the position that we have taken concerning any experience. It is also taught in this philosophy that truth needs no defense. Because, you see, my good students, truth does not need to be justified, for truth is. And therefore there is nothing, of course, to defend. So let us ask ourselves daily, more often perhaps than we have been, "What is my motive in any given situation? What is my true motive?" We cannot find our true motives in anything until we become first aware of the multitude of desires in our lifetime that we have already suppressed. For it could well be, and often is, a suppressed desire that motivates us into action. And because we are not aware of that suppressed desire that has motivated us into action, we find ourselves in a position to defend the action that we are expressing. And so, as one of my students said, as I asked him what was the soul of action, he said, "Awareness." Because it takes, my friends, self-awareness. Week after week, month after month, and year after year, we teach in this Association that it is inside our own head, that all experience, all freedom, all bondage, all things exist within our own consciousness. This is, for all of us, at least at times, a most difficult teaching and philosophy to accept. But, my good students, until we accept that truth, which is demonstrable, until we stop relying upon things outside of ourselves for freedom, for expression—until we reach that plane of consciousness—we will not, and we cannot, be free."   The philosophy also teaches that motive is the accepted faith to our duty and that is what sets the law into motion. Our motive is what moves us. So the more that we become aware of our true motives, the broader is our understanding of the experiences that we encounter, for our experiences are reflecting our true motive.
