Serenity's Weekly Spiritual Quote: Insight into being with a person, place, or thing

 

 

Dear Friends,

 

This week's quote is from spiritual awareness CC 32, which was published in Volume 2 of The Living Light Dialogue.

 

"Our teachings are to be with a thing, person, or place, and never be a part thereof: to be in this world and not to be a part of this world. Now many students have asked, “Well, just exactly what does that mean?” That means, my friends, no matter what experience that you encounter, no matter what you do or don’t do, that you, your spirit, may view the experience from a level of consciousness where peace reigns supreme. Now that level of consciousness is within all human souls and it is possible for all souls to attain. The attainment, however, is reached by the effort to balance our own being. Each person knows what is balance for them. It is not something that someone else has to tell us.

How do we know what is balance for us in our lives? My friends, that is the benefit of the effect of imbalanced desire, which is known as suffering. When we suffer, depending on the extent that we do suffer, we start to awaken within ourselves and we start to reexamine our life and we start to look at our life patterns and see where they have led us to this point in so-called time. And so it is that we are freed from these entrapments, when we make the effort."

 

In my own studies of these teachings, I have initially found many of the sayings and teachings to be perplexing, but as my studies continued a better understanding has dawned for me. But there are still quite a number of sayings for which I am in the process of awakening to that greater understanding, which is another way of saying they still perplex me.

Serenity's Weekly Spiritual Quote: The true you

 

 

Dear Friends,

 

This week's quote is from spiritual awareness CQA 2, which was published in Volume 10 of The Living Light Dialogue. The CQA series of classes were part of Serenity's devotional services.

 

"Try to understand that the true you is not what you believe in any given moment. You all know that you are not the person that you thought you were twenty years ago or more. You’ve changed your judgments, changed your beliefs, changed your attitudes, and therefore, if you look back twenty years ago, you’ll find some difficulty in recognizing that that person who did those things was really you. Well, that’s a sure way to slowly, but surely, gain some understanding that though we are personally responsible for the thoughts we think, we are not the thought. We are never the thought, for we are never the feeling. We are the idea. We are that which uses the thought, the vehicle. We are not the physical body. We are that that is using the physical body. We are not the feeling. We are that which is using the feeling. And if we will make that effort to simply understand that, we will separate truth from creation. And in separating truth from creation, we will use creation as a vehicle, for which it has been designed, but never again be bound by it."

 

It is our over-identification with certain thoughts and established patterns that prevent us from experiencing our divine birthright of health, wealth, and happiness. Heaven is only a thought away.

Serenity's Weekly Spiritual Quote: How we help our children and others

 

 

Dear Friends,

 

This week's quote, like last week's, is from spiritual awareness CQA 4, which was published in Volume 10 of The Living Light Dialogue. The CQA series of classes were part of Serenity's devotional services. Once a month Mr. Goodwin would have a question-and-answer exchange with the individuals who attended services that Sunday. As with many quotes from the CQA series of classes, this quote begins with a question from a member of the congregation. Questions from students or members of the congregation are in italics.

 

"It is sometimes said of our children that when they are small they step on our toes and when they are grown they step on our heart. Is it natural enough for subsequent generations, both individually and collectively, to resent one another and what can be done about it?"

"Well, ofttimes we, unfortunately, it seems, resent people or things that we decide are not harmonious with our own personal interests and desires. It is only an error in our own thought, it is only a limitation created by our own mind which keeps us separated from the universal consciousness of which we are, in truth, an inseparable part. If we decide and judge that our children or anyone are to do certain things and be certain ways—that we have made those rigid judgments in our mind—and they do not fulfill those desires and judgments, then, of course, we make the next step: that they step on our hearts. They step on what we have judged is the right path for them.

Now truth is taught through indirection, demonstration, and example. If we want someone to make changes which we believe is in their best good, then we must become the living demonstration. We must be the example. As like attracts like and becomes the Law of Attachment, when we set the example by working on ourselves, one of two things takes place with children or people: they grow in harmony with our efforts or they go. We need not be concerned whether or not they’re going to grow or whether or not they are going to go, for that is contrary to the Law of Personal Responsibility. If we take care of our self, if we truly become the living light, then we can be rest assured that our children, in keeping with the law established, though different from our own views, will be the light to the world that we have made effort in being ourselves."

Serenity's Weekly Spiritual Quote: What is evil?

 

 

Dear Friends,

 

This week's quote is from spiritual awareness CQA 4, which was published in Volume 10 of The Living Light Dialogue. The CQA series of classes were part of Serenity's devotional services. Once a month Mr. Goodwin would have a question-and-answer exchange with the individuals who attended services that Sunday. During the initial classes, the questions were written down and submitted before services began. In later classes, however, members of the congregation or visitors were called upon by Mr. Goodwin and they then asked their questions. Here is one question that was asked written in advance and read to Mr. Goodwin by a church director, as well as the answer that Mr. Goodwin provided.

 

“The first question: What is evil?"

"That, indeed, is a most interesting question. Because, ofttimes, we find in our understanding that which is evil to one is good to another. And so we must have an understanding within ourselves of what causes the decision or judgment for what we understand to be evil or good. This philosophy teaches that so-called evil is nothing more nor less than undeveloped good. If we understand, first, that there is one God, one Intelligence, infinite and eternal, expressed throughout all form—and by form, that also includes the mental forms created by our thought—if we understand that this one, infinite, intelligent Power is sustaining everything, then everything that is sustained by this Power has the potential of good. And so we do not spend our time, our efforts, and our energy on that which is undeveloped, but on that which is in the process of developing. And by that I mean that energy follows attention, and we and we alone are the creators of all the experiences in our life. So if we place our attention, which is directing this infinite, intelligent Energy, to the good, then the good, indeed, shall be our constant experience. Thank you."
