| Dear Friends, This week's quote is from spiritual awareness class CL 79, which was published in Volume 9 of The Living Light Dialogue.
"We have spent untold centuries in evolution before coming to this Earth planet. Our responsibility in life is indeed very great, for we are, by the right of our evolution, the examples to all of life. We cannot take those responsibilities lightly, for each harmonious thought that we have in our mind sends a healing balm out into the universe and has a direct effect upon all of nature, from the blade of grass to the human being. And not only does it go out across the earth realm, but out into outer space affecting untold multitudes of intelligent beings.
So when you find yourself limited, restricted, in what is known as self-thought, remember that your world is shrinking and someday it will shrink, by that law of self-thought, to the point where you will give it up. And when you reach that so-called bottom, you will begin the path of rising again to broaden not only your horizons, but the goodness of your life. Whatever it is that you have or have not, remember, your thought concerning it is sustained and supported by the same intelligent Energy that will bring you something better. But that can only happen when you open the door of opportunity, and the door of opportunity is opened by your own choice, by your own acceptance. For each denial that you set into consciousness closes the doors of opportunity that are waiting to open. It is our dictates that send us on our destiny, through the path of denial. Whatever you want or whatever you are experiencing that you don't want, remember, you have choice. You can change it. You may change it not by rejection and denial, that will only keep it in your universe, year after year and century after century. You can change it by first accepting its right of existence and, in so accepting, accept the right of something better and something greater. And I can assure you, my friends, if you will do that, if you will do that each and every day, that infinite, intelligent Energy called God will support your new choice. And you will indeed experience the goodness, the success, the abundance of a joyous life."
Each moment we are given the opportunity to express through our sense functions or through our soul faculties. But it is often not so easy to express through our faculties of duty, gratitude, and tolerance or faith, poise, and humility or our other faculties. Although it is sometimes difficult, it is possible for us all. But it does take effort and self-control to redirect our attention. And more we do our spiritual exercises, like our affirmations, and more consistently we meditate, the more we gain in self-control. And freedom is the effect of self-control.
Many years ago, when I was very concerned, I asked to speak with Mr. Goodwin privately, so I could discuss what was so troubling me. The moment I was alone with him, I began speaking. After just a few words, he gently raised his hand, which indicated to me that I should stop talking. And he simply said, "Russell, things have a way of working out." In that instant, my troubling thoughts just seemed to dissipate and to dissolve. So I offer those kind words to you today. Things have a way of working out. Regardless of what our minds have to say.
